China leader to make “major announcement”

Zhang Dejiang will make a two-day visit to Macau early this month and is expected to make a major announcement during the trip, the South China Morning Post reported.

The trip will be between May 8 and 10, the report said, without giving further details.

The Zhang visit comes ahead of a major trip to Hong Kong by a top state leader – probably President Xi Jinping – to mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s return to Chinese sovereignty after a century and a half of British colonial rule ended on June 30, 1997.
