Rooms fully booked over Golden Week

Macau may see its best Golden Week holiday in years, with forecasts for Macau’s upcoming holiday looking very positive, according to a report from Bloomberg.

“Macau’s gaming business will be strong during the Golden Week,” said Lawrence Ho, chairman and chief executive officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd to Bloomberg. “China’s economy is improving, there’s more visitation to Macau, and the city has better infrastructure now.”

SunCity Group, a junket operator, said it expects October betting volume to increase by 30 to 35 percent from last year to about HK$150 billion (US$19.2 billion), boosted by Golden Week, said Andrew Lo, executive director of Suncity Group Holdings Ltd.

According to a check of the city’s five-star hotels, more than 80 percent have been fully booked during the October 1-8 period.

“Hotel rooms booked by Suncity have been fully taken by clients during the Golden Week holiday,” added Lo. “Suncity expects it may need to pay for extra rooms at high room rates to meet the solid holiday demand.”

Wynn Macau Ltd. in a statement said it is expecting a “very strong Golden Week” with its two properties fully booked through the period.
