China Oct. lottery sales jump 20.3 percent

China lottery sales rose 20.3 percent to 23.7 billion yuan ($5.34 billion) in October, lead once again by growth in the Sports Lottery, according to Ministry of Finance figures.

Welfare lottery sales reached 17.75 billion yuan, up 14.5 percent year on year. Sports lottery sales rose 27.9 percent year on year to 14.95 billion yuan.

In the first ten months of 2014, total lottery sales stood at 312.11billion yuan, up 24 percent from a year earlier.

The Chinese lottery market has experienced strong growth in recent years as a result of positive macro trends in China, such as robust economic growth, increases in disposable income and a more positive shift in public perception towards the lottery business. Total lottery sales in China are projected to be $61 billion in 2014 and $73.3 billion in 2015, according to an iResearch Report. The report projects online sales for sports lottery products to be $2.2 billion and $3.2 billion in 2014 and 2015, respectively, representing a gain of 47.3 percent and 44.8 percent increase from the preceding years.
