Gambling-related kidnappings rise over last 12 months

Gambling-related kidnappings and arson saw a significant hike over the past twelve months in Macau, says the director of the Judiciary Police, Chau Wai Kuong, reports Macau Daily Times.

According to Chau, the twelve month period ending May 2017 saw 523 cases of kidnapping, and 413 cases of loan sharking in relation to the gaming industry, representing a rise of 20 percent and 6 percent, respectively.

Other areas of crime, including homicide, serious assaults, kidnapping (non-related to gambling) and organized crime, “remained low with a number of occurrences close to zero,” said Chau.
