Imperial Pacific has been given the go-ahead to open its casino on Saipan provided it meets certain conditions, primarily related to health and safety.
The Marianas Variety cited Commonwealth Casino Commission executive director Edward Deleon Guerrero as saying that the opening can occur once the requested information has been received and the tasks completed to the satisfaction of the regulator.
The requests include full operation of a fire alarm system and increased presence of a fire watch; an independent safety consultant; proper work status for employees; adequate parking and a general clean up of the construction site.
In addition, IPI was asked to submit other audit and tax-related documents.
Imperial Pacific has been operating a temporary facility on the island while its casino was under construction. However, the new facility has been hit by ongoing delays. It was originally planning to open at Chinese New Year.
Management has asked for an extension of the temporary facility due to the delays, which it blames primarily on problems created by Typhoon Soudelor in 2015.
