Increase in visitors expected for 2018 Lunar New Year

Macau is expected to see a slight increase in visitors during the Lunar New Year period, said MGTO head Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes on Wednesday, Macau News Agency reports.

In 2017, the city saw 935,000 visitors during the festive period. Fernandes says she is estimating between 944,350 and 963,000 this year, between February 16 and 22.

Fernandes said that the Office is looking to deploy strategies to avoid excessive concentration of people in popular tourist hotspots by coordinating with travel agencies.

“However, nowadays tourists in Macau are not just included in excursions but are also coming through individual visas. We need to use different methods to reduce the intensity of tourist flows,” she said.
