Kinmen to hold casino referendum in Oct

An outlying island county of Taiwan, Kinmen, is set to hold a referendum later this year for residents to decide whether or not to permit casinos, Focus Taiwan reports.

The referendum was initiated by Tsai Chun-sheng, a member of the Kinmen County Council, who collected 5,602 valid signatures to back up his initiative, according to an announcement from the county’s Election Commission.

The referendum will be held on October 28, according to the announcement, but a formal announcement on the planned referendum will be made later this week.
