Taiwanese police bust $11.3 mln online gambling ring

Taiwanese authorities have taken down an underground online gambling operation targeting both Taiwanese and Chinese gamblers, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau on Friday said it raided four locations in Taichung on Wednesday, arresting 33 suspects and seizing more than NT$500,000 (US$16,600) in cash.

It is understood that the gambling site started operations last year in December and took bets on European football matches.

The bureau said gamblers had placed bets totaling around NT$340 million to date.
