PAGCOR to address POGO issues ahead of 2022 elections

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo on Tuesday said that the current state of POGOs, if left unchecked, will be used against the current administration in the 2022 presidential elections.

“The problem we have is the 2022 president elections…” said Domingo during SIGMA Asia Focus Digital on Tuesday. “Of course, those that are against [our administration] are always looking for leverage that they can put their hands on.”

Unfortunately, POGOs fall into this category, due to the concentration of foreign workers in some areas, said Domingo, and stressed that this is an issue they will be solving.

“We are encouraging POGO hubs where all of the workers can be situated in one holistic community where their safety and health will be looked after.”

“We have stopped accrediting new operators for one sole reason. We want to integrate and harmonize all of the laws, rules, and regulations that other agencies are imposing on pogo operators.

“We are going to harmonize tax structures, harmonize labor and immigration and law enforcement agencies to ensure safe play, fairness and safety, and security for all workers in POGO working legally.:

The Philippines POGO industry currently licenses 60 operators and 237 service providers, and employs around 90,000 foreign nationals, said Domingo. Those licensed by PAGCOR are also required to hire at least 30 percent of their employees from the local workforce.
