Parisian cleared of Legionnaires Disease

The Parisian Macao, operated by Sands China, has been given the all-clear by the Health Bureau, after a second wave of inspections was conducted on the Parisian’s facilities, local media reports.

In April, the Health Bureau announced it was investigating three cases involving Hong Kong residents who had contracted the disease after visiting the hotel in December 2016, January 2017 and March 2017.

In May, unsafe levels of the Legionella bacteria was found in some water samples taken from the resort.

However, a second wave of inspections conducted in June found that only three samples showed unsafe levels of the bacteria out of 153 total samples.

The health body noted this is a “considerable positive reduction in the proportion” of the samples found to contain elevated levels of the bacteria, and given that “no legionella pneumophila bacteria were found on the exterior of the hotel and the external fountains […] the Health Services inspectors lifted the suspension of the activities of the respective locations on June 2 and 6,” respectively.

The Health Services now only recommends that the “hotel take the necessary cleaning and disinfection measures and to continue to accompany the issue and conduct analyses”.
