Sega Sammy to cut hundreds of jobs

Sega Sammy Holdings announced a corporate restructuring that will lead to the loss of 300 jobs in Japan.

“With the number of regular employees planned to be reduced by 300 as of January 30, 2015, the result of examination of the status of applications for voluntary retirement and of the repositioning of personnel mentioned above currently projects a reduction of 300 regular employees and 100 fixed-term employees,” the company said in a filing.

The company, formed after video games giant Sega merged with pachinko machine manufacturer Sammy, has revised its earnings for the fiscal year ending in March from $33 million profit to a loss of $125 million due to the restructuring.

The company’s operations will be split into three from April: Sega Holdings – which will oversee its gaming operations under Sega Games - Sega Interactive, responsible for pachinko and pachislot machines, and amusement park operator Sega Live Creation
