Tokyo cops bust illegal internet casino in Kabukicho

Tokyo police have arrested two people in connection with an illegal internet casino that had been operating in the basement of a building in Kabukicho for the past two months.

The arrested suspects were identified as the manager, Yoshinari Matsumoto, 36, and a worker, Minori Yabe, 51.

The shop, called Bit, was in operation 24 hours a day and possessed 15 computers that were allegedly used to access overseas gambling sites related to baccarat games. The police say that the two suspects have admitted the charges.

In its two months in operation, police reported that the gambling revenues came to about 25 million yen (about US$230,000).

It is unclear whether or not this illegal internet casino operation had any links with organized crime.
