Tourist arrivals to Savannakhet drop 10 percent

Tourist arrivals to the central Lao province of Savannakhet have fallen by 10 percent this year, in part because political demonstrations in Bangkok are keeping Thai gamblers from visiting the province’s casino. Last year, Savannakhet attracted 1 million tourists, but estimates indicate that this year trips will fall to around 900,000. Most of the visits are by Thais.
