University of Macau shares IR lessons in Tokyo

The University of Macau organized an event on Saturday at a hotel in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, to pass along to a Japanese audience Macau’s experience in developing an IR industry.

The event called “Strategy and Innovative Value for Integrated Resort in Japan with Minimum Social Disruption” also featured presentations or participation from Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Galaxy Entertainment, and Tiger Resort Leisure & Entertainment. The keynote speech was delivered by Naoya Haraikawa, councilor of the Japan Tourism Agency.

Initially there were plans for the event to be supported by Tokyo's Toshima Ward and to be hosted by Rikkyo University. However, a strong anti-casino movement utilizing the social media slogan “Don’t Sell Rikkyo’s Soul to Casinos” apparently caused both to back out, forcing a change to a smaller venue and a more limited program.

In this context, it was agreed that Lawrence Ho of Melco and George Tanasijevich of Sands would not speak at the event as had been initially planned and advertised.
