Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced that Vietnamese citizens will be able to gamble at two local casinos, one on Phu Quoc Island, and the other at Van Don Special Economic Zone near the Chinese border, local media reports.
The Prime Minister’s announcement was reportedly made during a meeting with local authorities in Quang Ninh province on December 22, according to local media.
The announcement was met with opposition from the operators of Ho Tram, who has been excluded from receiving locals, according to a local source in the industry.
The Prime Minister in his announcement also confirmed the government is still working on the draft gaming decree.
According to local sources, the PM recently visited the Van Don IR site, it is expected the gaming decree will be signed off "very soon, before Christmas."
