Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi, the self-described “blank slate” on an IR bid, is becoming clear about one point—don’t expect her to make a decision soon.
At her Wednesday press conference, she clarified that any local decision on making an IR bid will not be forthcoming until after the central government has published the more detailed regulations guiding the new industry. That prospect appears a few months away at the earliest.
She did note that the city government is contemplating holding additional IR explanation meetings for local residents.
But as for whether Yokohama intends to raise its hand and pursue an IR bid, she would only say, “I want to judge the matter carefully while watching the central government’s moves.”
