MGM China celebrates topping off for Cotai resort

MGM China celebrated the topping off of MGM Cotai, the second integrated resort of the casino operator in Macau.

MGM Cotai, designed like a jewelry box, plans to offer approximately 1,500 hotel rooms and suites, meeting space, high end spa, retail offerings and food and beverage outlets as well as the first international Mansion at MGM for a luxury experience.

“MGM COTAI is being developed to drive greater product diversification and bring more advanced and innovative forms of entertainment to Macau as it grows as a global tourist destination,” the company said in a press release.

The ceremony guests of honor gathered for a Chinese Bai Sun ceremony of incense offering and roasted pig-cutting. Then a Western ritual was carried out with a pine tree being lifted to the highest beam of the building.

MGM CEO Jim Murren said of the celebrated occasion, "MGM is synonymous with world class entertainment and customer service.  We are raising the bar here in Macau and are proud to be developing a never-been-seen-before design and entertainment experience at MGM COTAI.”

“Today is a milestone for MGM's history, and we are one more step closer to unveiling MGM COTAI.  When we open in 2016, this property will surely be a must-see attraction and a welcomed addition in making Macau a global tourism destination."
