Takeshi Iwaya, a leader of the parliamentarian efforts to pass the IR Implementation Bill, has been selected by the prime minister to become the new Minister of Defense.
Iwaya had become a familiar figure among the international IR operators due to his attendance at many gaming industry conferences and meetings in his capacity of secretary-general of the cross-party group of lawmakers seeking the establishment of the IR legislation.
While his new Cabinet post will certainly take Iwaya away from the gaming world for a period of time, it may also make him more influential in the longer run, presuming that his ministerial tenure is seen as being successful.
Although he has served as a lawmaker for over twenty years, this is Iwaya’s first Cabinet post.
