Melco achieves two awards at the CEM ‘Macau Energy Saving Contest 2017’

Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Studio City won 1st Runner-Up Award at the CEM ‘Macau Energy Saving Contest 2017’, whilst Altira Macau garnered the Excellence Award.

The awards are in recognition of the company’s efforts in reducing electricity consumption, as part of its corporate vision to promote environmental sustainability.

The contest compared six consecutive billing months of electricity consumption from May to October 2017 year-on-year to 2016, in which Studio City, with the combined efforts of all its business units, reduced electricity consumption by a staggering 17,869,970 kWh, rendering it the winner of the Silver Award among 44 competitors in the contest’s Hotel Group B (subscribed demand > 1,600 kVA).

The annual ‘Macau Energy Saving Contest’ has been held by CEM since 2009, and has in the past eight years achieved an incredible saving of 154 million kWh of electricity. In hosting the contest, CEM hopes to encourage both the general public and business industries to take appropriate energy-saving measures to enhance energy efficiency, reduce electricity costs and protect the environment.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, executive vice president, chief officer of human resources and corporate social responsibility of Melco Resorts & Entertainment commented, “As a responsible corporate citizen, Melco strives for environmental sustainability, and efficient energy use plays a significant part in realizing this vision. We are delighted that the tremendous efforts from our colleagues to reduce electricity consumption have generated not only savings in energy costs, but has garnered widespread recognition with this prestigious award from CEM.”
